About the Alzheimer Society

Profile

The Alzheimer Society is a nationwide, not-for-profit health organization dedicated to helping people affected by Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. The Society consists of a national office, 10 provincial organizations and more than 140 local offices across the country. The Society develops and provides support and educational programs for people with the disease, their families, carepartners and members of the health-care team. Founded in 1984, the mission of the Alzheimer Society of Kitchener-Waterloo is to improve the quality of life of people with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementias and their caregivers. The Alzheimer Society is the leading not-for-profit organization working nationwide to improve the quality of life for Canadians affected by Alzheimer's disease and other dementias and advance the search for the cause and cure.

Help for today is provided through family support and educational programs that include one-to-one and family counselling, support groups, and outreach programs such as caregiver respite, public awareness, and advocacy. Hope for tomorrow is provided by supporting ongoing research towards advances in detection, diagnosis, treatment and a cure.
